Residents at Michaelstowe have been getting ready for Dementia Awareness Week by creating beautiful tissue paper forget-me-not flowers together.

The craft session was a lovely way for residents to come together, enjoy a shared activity and raise awareness through creativity. Staff also joined in, with Chef Karen and Steve from maintenance taking part and helping to make the session feel even more inclusive and enjoyable.

The images show the finished flowers in bright blue and orange tissue paper, creating a colourful display full of texture and care. Another photograph captures two male residents working together as they stick tissue paper balls onto a flower shape, showing the teamwork and concentration involved in the activity.

Creative sessions like this can support wellbeing by encouraging focus, conversation and a sense of achievement, while also helping residents take part in events that have a wider meaning. Preparing for Dementia Awareness Week in this way gave everyone the opportunity to contribute to something thoughtful and visually uplifting.

Michaelstowe is also inviting the community to take part in its Dementia UK fundraiser on Tuesday 5th May at 2pm. It promises to be a positive and supportive occasion, building on the same spirit of awareness, togetherness and involvement seen in this activity.
