Residents at Michaelstowe enjoyed a wonderfully creative session last week as Rachael from Good Life Making led a hands-on pottery workshop at the home.
During the session, residents crafted their own ceramic owl ornaments from clay, enjoying the chance to try something practical, creative and a little different. The workshop brought together laughter, concentration and new skills, with everyone encouraged to shape and personalise their owls in their own way.
The images from the day capture the activity beautifully. Residents and Rachael can be seen gathered around the table with clay and tools ready to begin, while other photographs show residents rolling and flattening the clay by hand and with a rolling pin as their designs started to take shape. One resident is pictured smiling at the camera during the session, and another image shows the finished owls in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes, each one full of character.
Creative workshops like this can be a fantastic way to support wellbeing, offering opportunities for self-expression, gentle hand movement, focus and social interaction. Trying new activities can also help build confidence and give residents a real sense of achievement when they see what they have made.
It was a lovely session for everyone involved, and judging by the finished owls, there was plenty of talent on display at Michaelstowe. The home is already looking forward to welcoming Rachael back again.
