Residents at Michaelstowe marked World Earth Day with a creative session inspired by the natural world around them.

Using leaves and garden plants, residents created beautiful, individual artworks by painting with natural materials and using them as stamps. The activity combined art, fresh air and time spent connecting with nature, making it a relaxed and enjoyable way to celebrate the day.

The photographs show residents fully involved in the process. One resident was pictured seated at a table, painting leaves and pressing them onto paper to build her picture, while another used yellow paint to create her own leaf artwork. A male resident proudly held up his finished piece, showing a leaf design in a range of different colours, and another image displayed the collection of completed paintings created during the session.

Activities like this can support wellbeing in several ways, encouraging creativity, gentle concentration and conversation, while also helping residents enjoy the sensory benefits of working with natural materials. Bringing art and nature together offers a simple but meaningful way to reflect on the environment and appreciate the beauty of everyday things.

At Michaelstowe, World Earth Day was celebrated with imagination and colour, giving residents the chance to express themselves and enjoy a wonderful shared activity rooted in the outdoors.
